Forum to Turbo-charge static Landscape Strategy!

The National Landscape Forum is set to kick-start the recently launched if effectively ‘stalled before it started’ National Landscape Strategy with an interactive dynamic panel of speakers from Ireland and the UK. Landscape Alliance Ireland has convened the forum to meet at the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, Dublin 9, on Thursday 25th June. The 25 speakers include Conor Newman, UCG and Heritage Council, Conor Skehan, DIT, Brendan O’Sullivan, UCC, Willie Cumming, DAHG, Terry O’Regan of LAI, Helen Lawless, Mountaineering Ireland, Tony Williams, Landscape Institute, Ian Lumley, Taisce, together with guest speakers from Northern Ireland, England, Wales and Scotland. The focus will be how best to deliver on the aspirations of the Landscape Strategy in a third of the 10 year ‘can down the road’ timeframe suggested by the strategy document. Our landscape is our ultimate resource not only underpinning our quality of life, our sense of place and space, but also providing the basis for our food, tourism, craft and heritage sectors and adding to our attractiveness for inward investment. Landscape has often proved contentious is a planning context and demands an effective strategy in action.  The strategy will only work if all players and stakeholders are involved — landscape is in our shared ownership; let’s take ownership of the strategy also! All are welcome to attend and participate — for further details and updates see www.lai-ireland.com
