Athenry Town Walls Conservation Plan (2008)

Athenry’s medieval Town Walls, which date back to the 14th century, are a National Monument. They are of local, regional, national and international importance and are a source of immense county and local civic pride.

Recognising that the Walls were an under-exploited resource for Athenry, Galway County Council provided funding, in partnership with the Heritage Council, for the conservation and management plan, which has been prepared in consultation with many organisations and the community in order to
present as broad a consensus on the way forward as possible.
