Kilkenny City Walls Conservation Plan (2003)

Oxford Archaeology was commissioned by the Heritage Council to produce a conservation plan for the City Walls of Kilkenny. The walls are of great importance both locally and nationally, but their deteriorating condition and the partial loss of surviving lengths have been causes of concern.

The objectives of the plan are to: improve local understanding of the walls and their significance; to promote recognition and protection of the walls; encourage management schemes for effective maintenance; provide guidance for repairs and conservation; to provide protection of the setting from adjacent developments; and to improve access to the walls.
