Ireland’s inland waterways are important parts of our transport and industrial heritage. They hold aesthetic, recreational and spiritual values, as well as important habitats for many forms of wildlife.

New Heritage Officer for County Leitrim

Leitrim County Council in conjunction with the Heritage Council has appointed Aoife Mulachy as Heritage Officer for County Leitrim. 

Aoife is currently building up a network of groups/contacts throughout the county with the aim of working together to promote and create an awareness of Heritage Matters in County Leitrim.

Heritage covers a wide range of areas and is defined as comprising of; archaeological objects, architectural heritage, flora, fauna, geology, heritage gardens and parks, heritage objects, inland waterways, landscapes, monuments, seascapes, wildlife habitats and wrecks. Other areas of interest may include folklore, local history and cultural heritage.

Aoife would be delighted to hear from community groups, voluntary groups, schools, public bodies, professional consultants, academics and other interested parties/individuals out there who are currently involved/have worked on heritage projects, have skills or expertise/background in heritage related issues.
