Ireland has a rich natural heritage – from the sandbanks of the Shannon Estuary to the fens of Monaghan… from the natterjack toad to the Atlantic salmon… from the Killarney fern to the freshwater pearl mussel.

Local Biodiversity Action Plans

Due to current resource constraints, there is no funding available from the Heritage Council to support the implementation of projects under these plans; however, biodiversity projects are still supported under the County Heritage Plan Programme and the Heritage Council remains committed to increasing support when conditions permit.

Successfull implementation of Local Biodiversity Action Plans assists Ireland in contributing to the EU target of halting biodiversity loss. Council has worked with the Dept. of the Environment, Community & Local Government and with Local Authorities around the country, assisting in the development of these plans and providing resources for their implementation.
