National Bat-Monitoring Pilot Programme

In 2003, the Heritage Council collaborated with the Bat Conservation Trust to develop and evaluate a bat detector-based monitoring project for Ireland. Monitoring the population trends of bats is an essential component of bat conservation which addresses obligations under the EUROBATS Agreement 1991 [PDF 622KB] and the Habitats Directive 1992 [2.1MB].
